Arlington, small organizations like the H.O.P.E. Tutoring Center are often overlooked by big donors. Snagging a small grant from the Arlington Alliance for Youth means plenty. H.O.P.E. Tutoring was able to use its $300 grant from AA4Y to conduct a Spelling Bee at all seven of its sites that serve schoolchildren from mostly low-income families.
“When you’re on a shoe string budget, you have to find ways to stretch your money so a $300 small grant isn’t small to us by any means,” said Ann Terhune, H.O.P.E. Tutoring director of education.
