The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is hosting its annual book fair on Thursday, October 20, 2011 through Sunday, October 23, 2011.
Arlington Museum of Art at 201 W. Main St. will be filled with more than 30,000 community donated items, including hardcover and softcover books, CDs, DVDs, tapes, games, maps, records and more. According to Brenda Tindel from AAUW, “There are large numbers of fiction, nonfiction and children’s books. Many of the novels are like new, and there are books on sailing, art, history, travel — 45 categories in all.” The $5 admission to get first crack at the selection Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. is worth it. The fair opens at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday and on noon Sunday with free admission. Buy anything for half price on Sunday. “Collectors of antique books with beautiful bindings should check out these leather-bound, gilt-decorated volumes: The Seasons by James Thomson published in 1842; The Poetical Works of Robert Southey published in 1845; and Poems by Thomas Gray published in 1894. All are in very good condition,” reports Ann Brooks from AAUW. Mary Ann Huslig from AAUW says the community has been extremely generous with book donations and adds that the proceeds from the sale benefit Reading Is Fundamental, UTA scholarships and HOPE Tutoring.
